Today is October 31st
This morning we left Petersburg, Virginia and headed toward N Carolina. Having passed Emporia we reached NC at 10:10. Taking a detour on exit 160 we came upon Louiesburg and stopped at Robbies Gas Station. Behind the gas station were fields of cotton. I have never seen this before. Imagine how excited I was. We went into the gas station and asked the young lady if it would be okay if we "picked a little cotton". She didn't see why not. So we purchased hats and cups for the folks back home and went outside to see what we could see.
Back on the road again we run across Paul Bunyon and Big Blue. Imagine that, who would have thought.
For some reason I just love the shot through the trees when the bases are relatively bare. I try to get these kind of shots but it is usually at 70 mile an hour. This one looks pretty good, I think.
And look what else we found, more cotton. Wha?? Cotton in NC?? Ain't it soft and fluffy.
Off again and a detour to Bentonville Battlefield.
The Battle of Bentonville (March 19–21, 1865) was fought in Bentonville, North Carolina, near the town of Four Oaks, as part of the Carolinas Campaign of the American Civil War. It was the last battle between the armies of UnionMaj. Gen.William T. Sherman and ConfederateGen.Joseph E. Johnston.
I had no idea that this town looked like this. It was big, opulent, full of lights and people. Color and crowds!! And it was Halloween night to top that off.
Then we headed off to Myrtle Beach.
