Today is October 25th
At 9:05 we leave Fishkill, New York. And I thought Pennsylvania had some interesting names for cities.
We were heading toward West Point. We took this highway and thought we knew where we were going. We saw a West Point sign with people pulling in and stopping to be checked by a man in uniform. So, we pulled in and were immediately stopped by this big man in uniform. "Where are you ladies going?' very sternly. We are trying to find West Point. "Turn around here and go down the highway to the visitor center." with authority. Very military!! So, off we went.
We did finally come to the visitor center. We parked and got a ticket for a bus to take a tour. The tour guide was retired military, you will see his picture somewhere here. There are a lot of pictures so grab your coffee and kick back for a bit.
We got there in time for lunch. You can see them gathering outside the mess hall. The wind was blowing and it was cold. They will have to stand outside until everyone, and I mean everyone, of the cadets are in line. That would be about 4000 cadets. And there is NO excuse for you not being there, come rain, shine, hail, snow, 100 degree weather. They will all stand out there in a line and wait until they hear music coming out of the hall, which will be the call to mess,........
The buildings were huge and stone. The cathedral was huge and beautiful. The grounds were huge, we didn't see all of it. Talk about old and grand, this would be the place. And did I tell you before,
I love a man in uniform.
I got a book about West Point while I was there. There were many interesting points we learned about and many we didn't hear about. What a place, I was just in awe.
And this was the scenery coming out of West Point.
Until next time
Love to all
